GB/T20118-2006 "Steel Wire Rope" is the current industry standard for steel wire ropes in China, but it has not been updated for over a decade. In recent years, the use of steel wire ropes in construction, civil use, manufacturing, and transportation has been continuously increasing, and they are also facing various new challenges and problems. Therefore, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China began drafting a new standard - the national standard "Steel Wire Rope" in 2017. This standard has not yet been officially released, but some basic information can be learned from the drafting instructions for the new national standard "Steel Wire Rope" released in 2018.

1、 Background of the standard

In order to adapt to the rapidly developing economic environment at home and abroad, improve logistics efficiency, and ensure the safety of personnel and property, it is necessary to implement stricter technical specifications and quality standards. The new steel wire rope standard will be formulated based on the shortcomings of existing standards, after repeated argumentation and practical testing. In addition, according to market demand and technological progress, the new standard will optimize production procedures while stipulating more accurate and practical safety performance indicators.

2、 Composition of standards

The new national standards will have significant changes compared to existing standards. The new standard will include the following four aspects:

1. The scope of compliance with this standard.

2. Basic requirements of the product, such as weight, size, and physical properties.

3、 Main changes in standards

Compared to the existing standards, the new national standards will have the following main changes:

4、 The purpose of the new standard

The new national standards will be used in the following areas:
