How to inspect the crane wire rope? The safe use of steel wire rope largely depends on good maintenance and regular inspection. In the absence of instructions for the use of steel wire rope provided by the crane manufacturer, steel wire rope manufacturer or supplier, the inspection of steel wire rope shall be carried out in accordance with the following provisions.

1、 Daily inspection

The expected working section of the steel wire rope shall be visually inspected at least on a specific date in order to find general deterioration or mechanical damage. The inspection shall also include the connection between the steel wire rope and the crane.

The correct position of the steel wire rope on the drum and pulley should also be checked and confirmed to ensure that the steel wire rope does not deviate from the normal working position.

All observed changes in condition shall be reported and the wire rope shall be further inspected by the competent person in accordance with the provisions of regular inspection.

Whenever the rigging installation changes, such as when the crane is transferred to the operation site and the rigging is reinstalled, the steel wire rope shall be visually inspected according to the provisions of this article.

2、 Periodic inspection

1. General

Regular inspection shall be carried out by the competent personnel. The information obtained from the regular inspection is used to help make the following judgment on the crane wire rope: whether it can continue to be used safely until the next regular inspection; Whether it needs to be replaced immediately or within the specified time period.

2. Inspection cycle

The periodic inspection period shall be determined by the competent person, and at least the following contents shall be considered: national regulations and requirements on the application of steel wire rope; Type of crane and environmental conditions at the work site; The working level of the institution; Early inspection results; Experience gained in inspecting wire ropes of similar cranes; Time that the steel wire rope has been used; Frequency of use.

3. Inspection scope

Each wire rope shall be inspected along the whole length.

For extra long steel wire rope, the working length plus at least 5 turns of steel wire rope on the drum can be checked with the consent of the supervisor.

Pay special attention to the following key areas and parts: wire rope fixing points on the drum; The sections on and near the wire rope end fixing device; A section passing through one or more pulleys; Section passing safety load indicator pulley; Section passing through hook pulley block, etc.

4. Rope end fixture and inspection

The steel wire rope near the rope end fixing device, especially the part entering the rope end fixing device, shall be checked. Because this position is affected by vibration and other impacts, as well as the effect of environmental conditions such as corrosion, it is easy to break the wire. The probe can be used to detect whether the steel wire is loose, so as to determine whether there is a broken wire inside the rope end fixture. The rope end fixture should also be checked for excessive deformation and wear.

The sleeve used for fixing rope sleeve and rope ring shall also be subject to visual inspection to see whether the material has cracks and whether there are signs of possible slip between the steel wire rope and the sleeve.

5. Inspection records

After each periodic inspection, the supervisor shall submit the inspection record of steel wire rope and indicate the maximum time interval that cannot be exceeded until the next inspection. Regular inspection records of steel wire rope should be kept.

3、 Post accident inspection

In case of any accident that may cause damage to the steel wire rope and its end fixture, the steel wire rope and its end fixture shall be inspected according to the provisions of regular inspection or the requirements of the competent person before resuming the work.

In the hoisting mechanism with double steel wire rope system, even if only one steel wire rope is scrapped, the two steel wire ropes shall be replaced together, because the new steel wire rope is thicker than the remaining steel wire ropes and has different elongation. These two factors affect the release amount of the two steel wire ropes on the drum.
